2021 HOWL-O-WEEN PET PARADE AND VIRTUAL COSTUME CONTEST

Salem is going to the dogs (and cats and lizards and bunnies), and we couldn’t be happier about it!

Salem Main Streets is very pleased to announce the return of the annual Howl-o-ween Pet Parade, this year in a combined format. The physical pet parade will return to Derby Wharf on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 1 pm, with the usual fun, costumes, and contest with prizes. In addition, we are fortunate to continue our 2020 partnership with Creative Collective to produce a virtual contest for those who are not able to join us on Oct. 9th.

Pet Parade – Saturday, October 9, 1 pm to 2:30 pm, Derby Wharf

Parade participants should gather on Derby Wharf between 1 and 1:30 pm. Participants will then do a loop through neighboring Central Wharf and return to Derby Wharf for the costume contest.

We ask all parade participants to register online in advance if possible. We request a small donation of $5 for Salem residents and $10 for non-residents. All proceeds go directly to Salem Main Streets in support of special community programs (like this one!) all year round.

If you are entering multiple pets as one group costume, you only need to register once. If you are bringing multiple pets with different costumes, please register separately.

Virtual Photo Contest – submissions due Oct. 9

Submissions must be received by October 9th and voting will occur October 10 through October 17, awards announced on Monday, October 18.  Again, we request a small donation of $5 for Salem residents and $10 for non-residents. Pets may participate in both the parade and online contest but must register for both separately.
