Event Details

Ballet des Porcelaines was lost to the world for almost 300 years, until art historian Meredith Martin, an associate professor of art history at New York University, uncovered this 18th-century French manuscript and score.

An exceptional creative team led by Phil Chan, award-winning dancer, choreographer and arts activist, has reimagined and restaged Ballet des Porcelaines through a 21st- century lens. Following its premiere at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, this long-lost allegory about the intense European desire to know and possess the secrets of Asian porcelain will be performed at PEM by members of the Oakland Ballet Company, led by artistic director Graham Lustig.

A panel discussion about the origins and development of the project follows the 2 pm performance.
