About Winter Island Trading Co.
Winter Island Trading Co. brings handwoven chainmail and costume adornment to the Haunted Happenings Marketplace in Salem, Massachusetts. Salem-born artist Kim Ballou works in chainmail, jewelry, headpieces, dresses and costume accessories, in an aesthetic that runs gothic with a renaissance lean.
Pieces range from collar necklaces hung with spikes and faceted sapphire drops to full chainmail body harnesses — work that reads as armor and adornment at once. Every ring is placed by hand.
Bridal and Costume, a Rare Find at the Market
Kim works extensively with the bridal community on custom projects, which makes this booth unlike anything else on the Common. Her Salem roots run deep: her family once owned a historic Salem inn and apothecary and helped the House of the Seven Gables open its tea house, where her ancestor Sally still appears in photographs serving tea.
