About the Peabody Essex Museum

The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) is a landmark art and culture museum in the heart of downtown Salem. Founded in 1799, PEM brings together art, history, architecture, and stories from around the world through changing exhibitions, collection galleries, historic houses, public programs, and family experiences.

Visitors can explore three floors and 25 galleries, including the museum’s Salem Witch Trials 1692 exhibition, maritime and Asian export art, fashion and design, and contemporary installations. The campus also includes Yin Yu Tang, a 200-year-old Chinese house, and the PEM Shop, which can be visited without museum admission.
