Pumpkin window art by Danny Wicked.
Across from the Witch House, Legion Salem brings vintage clothing, leather fashion, art, candles, crochet, jewelry and records together at 301 Essex Street. The shop connects Salem makers with independent creative businesses from elsewhere in New England, Texas and Canada. It is a place to find several very different kinds of work in one visit.
A visit to Legion can take you from reconstructed band shirts to candles poured into reclaimed glass, then to prints, jewelry and records. Getting to know the people behind that range is part of the pleasure of shopping with independent businesses.
This feature is part of Legion Salem’s 2026 Haunted Happenings Marketplace sponsorship spotlight. Here are the makers and independent brands to explore at the shop.
Clothing with a point of view
Creeping Death Designs starts with band merchandise and turns it into something new. Founded by Christina Schwarz, the Salem clothing company reconstructs authentic band T-shirts into dresses, skirts, crop tops, flannels and other pieces. Music is part of the garment itself.
Open Casket Vintage brings secondhand goth clothing from Salem into the mix. For anyone who enjoys the search as much as the find, its dark vintage selection offers another way to approach personal style: through pieces with a previous life.
Pallbearer Press adds horror T-shirts from Austin, Texas. Its presence at Legion connects Salem shoppers with an independent brand from well beyond the North Shore, with clothing made for people who want their love of horror right up front.
Zahra Lux Leather contributes leather fashion from Salem. Alongside vintage and reconstructed clothing, the collection brings another material and another local designer’s perspective to the shop. Browse its profile to get acquainted with the work before visiting.
Tiny Crown Creations brings upcycled denim jackets and flannels from Rhode Island. Existing garments become the starting point for a new piece, adding another approach to reuse alongside the vintage finds and reconstructed band clothing at Legion.
Positively Horrific pairs horror with an uplifting outlook. The maker’s Legion selection includes hoodies and crystals, giving shoppers another entry into the shop’s dark aesthetic. Its name captures the combination: an affection for horror with room for some positivity, too.

Art, objects and smaller discoveries
Koukla Corpse brings prints, postcards and stickers from Ontario, Canada. The selection offers several ways to take artwork home, whether there is a wall waiting for a print, a postcard to send or a small space that needs a sticker.
Smoke And Honey is the work of North Shore artist Heather Rose. Prints and candles are part of its Legion selection, with dark art also featured in the artist’s own shop. It is another connection between this Salem storefront and the surrounding creative community.
Ari’s Crochet brings crochet goods from a Salem maker. The pumpkin kitties pictured below bring a playful Halloween touch to the collection. Explore Ari’s profile for a closer look at the work.
Chaos and Hell adds jewelry to the collection. The Massachusetts maker’s work draws on occult imagery and traditional metalworking, bringing another kind of detail to explore alongside the clothing and artwork. Follow the profile to see more of its dark wearable pieces.
Reclaim the Hammer gives glassware a new purpose through candles. This Maine maker’s contribution connects the vessel and the candle, inviting a closer look at the objects we might otherwise pass by. It is a different expression of reuse within the same shop.

Leave room for records
Cheapo Records brings a record selection from its Cambridge shop to Legion in Salem. Music is already present in the band clothing and visual influences throughout this group; here, there is something to put on the turntable when the day is over.
